ICYMI: UPS Pushing Forward Towards Inclusion

UPS has loosened guidelines related to afros, locs, braids, curls, coils, twists, knots, and beards, and reworded dress code issues to remove gender specific language after Carol Tomé was named first female chief executive of UPS in March of 2020.

Tomé has been enacting policies, and real life changes to enable UPS to encourage diversity, and acceptance of all people. As of today, their Board of Directors is 40% women, and 25% ethnically diverse.

While the policy still states that employees should maintain hair, and facial hair in a professional manner this is a huge step for inclusion, and respect of the LGBTQ+, African-Americans, Religious groups such as Muslims, Sikhs, and Rastafarians, and so many more!

This movement of inclusion is spreading as California passed the Crown (Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural hair) Act in July 2019, and similar adaptations being passed in New Jersey, and New York City, and the House of Representatives have passed the Crown Act in September of this year, and is waiting to move forward to become a nation-wide policy.
